Whether it’s dunk tanks, dance-offs, shopping sprees or sleepovers, youngsters facing sickle cell illness miss out on a lot of ‘kid things’ during their youth. But Sawyer, who was born with sickle cell illness, now has a promising future because of his brother.

At the age of two months, Sawyer, now six, started receiving therapy at Children's. From his fraternal twin, Saxton, he had a bone marrow transplant in 2019 that saved his life. Although the two have been inseparable from infancy, their mother Shea claims that this incident has strengthened Sawyer and Saxton's friendship and brought the two even closer.
