The Pain during Childhood Leukemia Therapy

Pain during childhood leukemia therapy may increase the risk for neurocognitive late effects. A new study outlines that evidence-based behavioral interventions should be included in pain management. "We know that survivors of childhood ALL [acute lymphoblastic leukemia] are at risk for neurocognitive late effects that can lead to difficulties with school, social relationships and quality of life during survivorship," says senior author and neuropsychologist Lisa Jacola, PhD.

"Understanding why some patients are at greater risk than others is important because it helps us tailor our screening and interventions aimed at improving quality of life and functioning."
